Brown Folwell Storytelling Workshop Scholarship Summary

The Brown Folwell Storytelling Workshop Scholarship, funded by James and Rebecca Brown, Frank Folwell, and Sherry Ricchiardi, supports undergraduate and graduate students studying photojournalism whose portfolios emphasize storytelling through still images or video.

The award honors the legacy of visual storytellers and educators:
• James W. Brown, Ph.D., former professor and executive associate dean at Indiana University, is known for his pioneering work in photojournalism education, multimedia production, and computer-assisted reporting. An Eagle Scout and published author, he remains active in teaching and mentoring visual storytellers.
• Frank Folwell, former USA TODAY photo editor and Fulbright Specialist, has led photo coverage of major world events and trained journalists globally in ethics, photography, and newsroom leadership. He continues to mentor journalists through international workshops.

This scholarship recognizes students whose work reflects strong visual storytelling and a commitment to journalistic excellence.
